Welcome to
Kahurangi Angus Stud
Kahurangi Angus is based on the Bloodlines of Floridale Angus.
These amazing Dams are the backbone of the herd and have a proven record over time showing outstanding longevity, fertility and a history of producing quality bulls .
Floridale stud is very well known for their exceptional temperament, hardiness and sound constitution, and the ability to perform just as well in the show ring as on a tough, rugged, high country station.
After working on various High Country Stations throughout the South Island. Including a few seasons at the Molesworth, I witnessed first-hand the quality of the Floridale Stud bulls proving that they could handle the harsh climate there, and pass on their quality genetics into the breeding herd which was back then 3500 cows.
The decision to take on the stud was a no brainer especially after seeing the original Floridale stud cows, well outperform the commercial angus stock being run on the place. The cows gave no health or calving issues and considering the harsh environment they are being challenged with here on the West Coast
After trialing various Angus bloodlines, it was pretty obvious which bloodlines were able to handle the harsh climate of the Northern West Coast.
Throughout the winter, it’s common on the coast to only get a couple of hours sun during the day. Normally this is in the afternoon when the fog and low cloud finally clears and it’s also becoming more common to see rainfalls of in excess of 300mm per month over the winter season too.
In this extreme climate of soaking, waterlogged, cold winters and intense dry, hot summers it’s a test to any man or beast!
